Project 2 Research

SAVOR SEATTLE FOOD TOURS
http://www.savorseattletours.com

My visual explanation would include a map of seattle with (fork-shaped) buttons stuck into the neighborhoods where the food tours are available, then more specific information about which restaurants in each area are toured, and what's on the menu at these restaurants during the tour. I would also include some vector drawings of various foods on each of the tours menus. (ex. Pike Place Market Tour: smoked salmon, clam chowder, piroshkys, Beecher's mac & cheese, Etta's crab cakes, mini doughnuts; Booze 'n Bites Tour near Western Ave. & Virginia St: local wine, absinthe cocktails, martinis, margaritas, tacos, spring rolls, pizza; Chocolate Indulgence Tour: Fran's chocolates, chocolate cupcakes, Dahlia Bakery's chocolate truffle cookie, Columbian drinking chocolate, gourmet chocolate popcorn mix, ).
I might also include a vector drawing of calendar pages that the viewer can navigate based on the month, and then have the days and times of available tours listed on the days that the tours are scheduled. I was thinking I'd use a ticket icon with a bite taken out of it (to imply that it is a food tour) as the button on the the days that food tour tickets are still available for purchase.

DINE AROUND SEATTLE RESTAURANT EVENT
http://dinearoundseattle.org/about
The 2014 Dine Around Seattle Restaurant Event held this March 2nd thru the 27.
Lots of local restaurants participate by offering a 3 course prix fixe dinner menu for $30 and a 3 course lunch menu for $15. Each restaurant offers multiple options for each course. I could use a map of seattle with buttons over the locations of participating restaurants, and maybe make each of the buttons as each restaurant's individual logos/restaurant name. Or I might make each button for each restaurant in the shape of one of the menu items they are serving on their menu. The buttons would list the restaurant's name, address, hours of operation, and menus for the event.
I could also make my  visual explaination page in the shape of a plate with various food items on it, like a shrimp cocktail, a steak, piece of sushi, etc.. and have the seafood restaurants participating in the event pop up when the mouse scrolls over the shrimp cocktail, and the steak restaurants pop up when the steak on the plate is clicked/moused over, and the sushi restaurants for the piece of sushi, etc…

HOP SCOTCH SPRING BEER & SCOTCH FESTIVAL
http://www.hopscotchtasting.com
Held at Fremont Studio, Seattle Wa.  April 18-19th.
Beer, scotch, whiskey and wine tasting from local breweries, vineyards and distilleries.
I would have a table with a glass of wine, beer bottle, and scotch and whiskey shot glasses. Clicking on the wine glass would bring up a list of the local wines available at the festival, the beer bottle (or maybe pint glass) would bring up a list of the beers available, clicking on an individually listed beer would bring up more detailed information about the flavor notes in the beer, as well as info about the brewery.

ODDMALL
http://oddmallseattle.wordpress.com

"Oddmall: Emporium of the Weird! Weird Art, Weird Crafts, Weird Entertainment."
An event held in Everett Wa where local artists, crafters and entertainers gather to show off their talents/ sell their wares.
I would make my visual explanation as a booth with maybe paintings, jewelry/sculptures, a blue ribbon hanging from the side of the booth, and a performing artist standing beside the booth. Clicking on the performance artist would  bring up a list of the perfumers currently scheduled to participate in the event, the painting would bring up list of participating artists, the jewelry or sculpture would bring up list of participating crafters. Clicking on the blue ribbon would bring up info on the various contests held at the event, and clicking on the sign hanging from the booth's roof would bring up a map of the convention center's planned layout for booth locations, and a registration form to register for your own booth at the event.

HOW TO SELL A CAR
Interviewed my boyfriend, who is a dealership car salesman,  about his top 5 tips for making a sale, as well as some dealership slang words/phrases that they use to describe different aspects of the job, types of customers,  etc.
-Make your customer laugh, feel at ease
-Ask them about themselves,  then relate to them on common interests you both share so they feel like they can trust you
-Don't pressure your customer, let them leave if they aren't ready to buy yet. Too much pressure quickly turns off potential customers.
-Take notes on each customer so you can remember their name, interests, which car they are looking to buy, features that are important to them in a new car, etc.. if/when you talk to them again in the future

Slang:
"A Hattrick" - selling 3 or more cars in one day
"Mooch" - a customer who won't budge from their too-low offer on a car's price

GROW YOUR OWN TOMATOES

Tips on how to successfully grow your own tomatoes. I could make a visual explanation by drawing a tomato plant with with the different elements of successful tomato growing depicted in the visual (like a fan, sun/lighting, bottom leaves, mulch, pruning sheers, watering can, etc.)

How to make my favorite food in the world- Indian matter paneer, garlic naan, basmati rice/biryani and raita. I would have a drawing of the completed dinner on a plate. Clicking on each different part of the meal would lead to a new window with pictures of the ingredients needed to cook that dish as well as instructions on how to prepare it (the recipe).
